The second stage of the largest transport and logistics center (TLC) "Sibirsky" for handling container trains beyond the Urals was put into operation on Thursday near Novosibirsk.
The first stage of the TLC "Sibirsky" was opened via video link in October last year by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation (currently the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation) Andrei Belousov, who noted that the deployment of the infrastructure of international transport corridors is a special focus of the Russian government. The terminal has become an anchor resident of the special economic zone "Novosibirsk" being created in the region.
"10 months have passed (since the opening of the first stage - ed.), and we have completed the construction of the second stage of the TLC "Sibirsky" at an accelerated pace ... This is a unique project. Today, this terminal can receive and process more than 10 container trains traveling from the Far East with reloading to the St. Petersburg hub, to the Central Federal District, the Southern Federal District. A difficult situation is developing on the Trans-Siberian Railway. It is overloaded. And it is the technology of using gondola cars that enables us to export products from Far Eastern ports in a short period of time... Next year, we hope to open the third stage in a year, in August. It will operate at full capacity and will be able to handle 15 container trains per day," said Alexander Kakhidze, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Novosibirsk Transport Terminal Company.
